SHOCO Awards of Excellence 2010 program is launched with the unveiling of new statuette

Posted on 12 April 2010 by admin

ORANJESTAD -  The Shoco Awards of Excellence program for 2010 was officially launched this month with the unveiling of the newly-revised design of the Shoco statuette. The new statuette as well as the announcement of program details was made by AHATA, together with sponsor Digicel, during a recent press conference. The Shoco Awards of Excellence is AHATA’s official recognition program focusing on excellence in service, hospitality and outstanding contribution to Aruba’s tourism industry. Whereas in the past, individual organizations were also recognized, today’s awards focus on individual accomplishments that have led to far-reaching results.

The Shoco award first received its name by merit of it being something truly symbolic of the island. The Shoco owl is one of Aruba’s natural treasures, indigenous to the island, and representing wisdom, resourcefulness, focus, vision and a keen sense of direction. The look of the Shoco award is unique, with renowned local artists Maritza Erasmus and Edwin Donato having created the design. The original design of the award was unveiled in 2005, with an updated award statue introduced in 2010.
