Aruba’s Own Sarah-Quita Offringa Now Both Free Style and Slalom World Champion!

Posted on 22 August 2011 by admin

ORANJESTAD – For Aruban windsurfing prodigy Sarah-Quita Offringa, each year on the PWA circuit is another opportunity to set new records and enhance her reputation. Not content to be the youngest Women’s PWA World Champion in Freestyle for three years running since the age of 17 which made her the youngest in PWA history, she decided to pursue the title in Slalom Racing, and after being ranked 3rd last year, accomplished her goal during the Pegasus Airlines PWA World Cup in Alacati, Turkey.
At the close of competition on Sunday, August 15, she sailed away with the title of PWA Women’s World Champion in Slalom, after having again secured the top spot in Freestyle during the Sotavento Fuerteventura World Cup taking place in Spain from July 20 to August 1.
Intense competition in the final Freestyle match in Spain against veteran competitor Laure Treboux had sports writers describing Sarah-Quita’s performance as “inspiring.” Though Treboux “was on fire” during her semi-final match, and “upped her game” when battling against Sarah-Quita, “she was unable to match the power and diversity of Offringa’s moves. Offringa was awarded the victory to the cheers of the crowds on the beach after an amazing season where she was unbeaten on the water.”
During the awards, Sarah-Quita demonstrated her gracious sense of sportsmanship; “It’s my fourth world title and I am really happy. I sailed a great heat landing all my biggest moves. It’s a great way to finish the year. I am really pleased for Laure, Yoli and Xeni; they are all sailing really well,” she told reporters.
From Spain, it was on to Turkey for another ten days of competition to claim her first PWA Women’s World Champion title in Slalom Racing. “Offringa took charge on the first day of competition, powering her way through the first elimination and obviously enjoying the flat water in Alacati,” reports the PWA. On day six of the competition, Karin Jaggi of Switzerland “sailed a faultless race in elimination ten to secure her place in number one and to finish the event on a high.”
Sarah-Quita took second place in Turkey, but her overall performance this year secured her the points to claim the PWA Women’s World Champion Slalom Racing, again setting new records and PWA history with two titles at the age of only 20.

IFCA Pro Kids Freestyle 2011

Posted on 27 July 2011 by admin

ORANJESTAD/DEN HAAG -The final day of the IFCA PRO KIDS at Brouwersdam started early with a skippers meeting at 9 am. A chill cloudy day with winds from 18 up to 25 knots with a little bit of rain and later sunshine made it possible to finish another single and a double elimination. The beach was packed with spectators and the competition was on for the whole day. Later that day the awards ceremony was being held and the 2011 IFCA PRO KIDS Champions could finally be crowned.

IFCA PRO KIDS Final day highlights:

All the way from Russia Kostya Smirnov who was struggling in the first rounds but, finally managed to perform better and made it to a 5th position in the double eliminations round. Steven Max from Aruba took home a well deserved 3rd place making sure to the others bellow him that he was not to be mess with. Best variety of tricks and a pretty solid routine performance we saw from Ethan Westera from Aruba with highlighted tricks such as his no handed flakas fast grubies and e sliders.

Rafael de Windt from Curacao transformed his trade mark move the spock and kiss to an even unthinkable trick which is now spock and wisle the judges could not help but to give him extra point for that one also was he one of the many riders who busted tricks right in front of the judges “rocks” including a punch, Kono’s a few double jumped flaka’s and a Toad with a huge spray towards the judges. Rafael has nothing less and nothing more than the perfect style and attitude for a Freestyle entertainer.

Dutch Boy Pim vd Borgt got impressive skills and gave the judges a hard time making decisions even kicking out Nick van Ingen in the single elimination with a bunch of powerful tricks including normal kono’s, one handed funnels stylish shaka’s and a air flaka’s to name a few.

A second place brought some tension between the top 4 riders in the U20 category. And then in the double elimination Pim could not do the same routine this time but, in the end he took home a well deserved third place.

As for Nick van Ingen it was a very successful day going from 3rd place in the single to a first place in the double elimination. It was a battle between two friends and they were going for everything.

In the end Nick had a few bigger moves than his opponent Rick Jendrusch and won the double elimination on the last competition day a very close heat and a great show full of tension.

Rick Jendrusch a 100% Brouwersdam local, a competitor everyone would cheer for, a competitor everyone would watch competing in his home spot. This guy probably had the experience of a life time winning the single and loosing the double elimination against his friend Nick. Rick Jendrusch knew how to compete in his back yard and performed solid tricks on both tacks with a few moves (double punieta, switch kono’s) in front of his supporters and fans. He won the double elimination the previous day and earned enough points on the last day of the event to be awarded with a WORLD CHAMPION title in the junior’s category.

The IFCA PRO KIDS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS in Brouwersdam was truly an amazing event with great wind conditions and a fantastic atmosphere.

PWA BONAIRE WORLD CUP onthe opening day Sarah-Quita Offringa fly their way into first place

Posted on 14 June 2011 by admin

SOROBON LAC BAY BONAIRE-The female fleet made up of 8 sailors got off to a flying start. Laure Treboux (Fanatic / North) looked dialed into the conditions from the very beginning steaming her way through her first and second heats taking down Mio Anayama (NeilPryde) and Yoli de Brendt (Fanatic / North) with her fully planning spock 540’s and Grubbys.

New girl to the world tour Maxime van Gent put up a great performance but it wasn’t quite enough to work her way past 3 times world champion Sarah-Quita Offringa (Starboard / Gaastra / Mystic).

Arrianne Aukes (RRD / Simmer / Dakine) displayed a stunning array of slidey maneuvers securing herself a 4th place finish, behind experienced competitor De Brendt.

Women’s Final

Treboux and Offringa made their way to the winner’s final, having posted consistent performances throughout the competition. Treboux reeled out her moves like clockwork whilst Offringa went for the high risk power moves. Crashing hard Offringa allowed Treboux to open the gap early on, and take the lead with her consistent spocks and switch stance maneuvers. However the high risk strategy came together when she bagged herself a perfect Kono and Bob in the closing seconds, squeezing her way through to seal the victory.

Competition continues into the double elimination tomorrow with another perfect forecast promised.
